* - There are a great many things happening over the next few weeks;
  • The Lenten Friday Dinners Sales this year are going very well. The change of how we are doing Crab Cakes (home-made from Lump), the introduction of Steamed Shrimp, and the change of hand making the pizzas, have put us on-track to having the highest number of dinners served in many years. The last time we will do it this year is this Friday. In order to pull this event off, we need help from Council members (and spouses, girlfriends, children, ...) so that we have enough people to keep up with the volume in terms of taking orders, cooking the food, and serving the orders to everyone, in as timely a manner as we can. Anyone who can, we would appreciate if you could come and help, but if you cannot, then please come, as well as bring your family and friends, to have some of the great food we are serving.
  • This Saturday, we will have our annual St. Patrick's Day Pot Luck for members, their families and friends. If you are planning on coming, please either sign up on Thursday with how many are coming and what you will be bringing, or let me know by email.
  • Thursday March 24 is Holy Thursday. Both the Assembly and the Council have been requested to help with the Eucharistic Adoration. The Assembly has been asked to provide Color Corps, and the Council has been asked to provide 4 members to carry the Canopy. If you would like to help with either of these, again please either sign up on Thursday or let me know by email.
  • On Sunday April 10 the Council will be handling Donut Sunday. Again, if you can help with this, please sign up on Thursday. Keep in mind, one of the reasons we chose this Sunday is because we will try to recruit new members for the Council in order for them to attend our last Admissions Degree for this Fraternal Year in May.
I hope to see everyone this Thursday, then again on Friday for our last Lenten Dinner for the year, and then again on Saturday for our St. Patrick's Day Pot Luck.

Fraternally,

Stephen Furth

We have 2 candidates from the Columbia Council who will coming to this Degree.
I had sent an email out last week, asking for people to let me know what they can/will be bringing, but I have not heard from anyone yet. If you are bringing something, please let me know.
I am planning on being there at 6:30 PM, so that we can have a quick (and I do mean quick) run-through to be sure we are all up-to-speed on our respective parts.
(While there seems to be some scheduling conflicts - my understanding is that there is a Finance Meeting in the Hall and a SIT Meeting in the Church, both that will not end until 7:00 PM - I am sticking to this plan; HOW it will pan out, as in how/where we can do a run through without disturbing these other groups, I will figure out between now and then...)

While the SIT Prayer Vigil is not a Council event, (A) it is a very important event for the Parish, and (B) several Council members are also members of SIT@SLM (unofficial name I just made up).
But, there is something the Council has been asked to help with in conjunction with this event.
We were asked to help with the refreshments that will be available during the Vigil and after.
I am looking for a couple of guys who plan on being at the Vigil who can help me set up coffee and drinks (water and sodas) around 5:45 PM so they is available to people during the Vigil, and then help me set out the snacks (current plan is cookie tray(s) and a veggie tray(s)) for everyone to have after the Vigil which ends at ~9:30 PM.
Please let me know if you can help with this.

I hope to see everyone this Thursday, and again next Friday.

Three major items of note:
  • 1st Degree Exemplification - While we have 1 new Candidate (Peter Pau), he had said when we met him during the September Donut Sunday that he did not know if he could be at the October 1 Exemplification due to his work schedule. Neither Drew (sponsor) or I have been able to get in touch with him so far to confirm he is coming. Both of us will continue to try to get in touch with him. In addition, I have not heard that there are any Candidates from any other Council coming. Bottom line - if we have no Candidates, we will just have a normal meeting, as opposed to having a practice (see next point) in place of the actual Exemplification. Once I know what is going on, I will let everyone know.
  • As to practice, it was suggested that we have a quick run-through prior to the Exemplification. All members of the 1st Degree Team are asked to at the Hall by 6:30, so that we can do a quick, final, practice to be sure we are all ready. This will also allow me to make any last-minute role adjustments if someone is absent.
  • Silver Rose Icon - As I had said before, I had signed us up for this, but did not expect to get it since other councils had also signed up and Councils that had not had it last year were being given priority. But, I received a call last night from Ed Haynes (PSD), who is the State Icon Chairman, that the Council that he had scheduled to have it on October 30 cannot do the service on that date due to scheduling conflicts with the Church. We have been offered the Icon if we want it and can accommodate this date. I will talk to Fr. Victor, either tonight or tomorrow before the meeting, to see if he and the Church are available for this date, and then bring this up before we do the Exemplification to work out whatever logistics are needed - mainly, who will pick everything up from the Council holding the service on October 29, and then set things up at St. Lawrence on October 30.
I hope to see everyone this Thursday.

Stephen Furth

As you can see by the calendar, the next month is going to be very busy.

This Thursday, we need to do several things;
  • Coordinate the activities for September 11
  • Coordinate the activities for Donut Sunday and the Recruitment Drive we will be doing that week-end
  • After the meeting, I would like to get the 1st Degree Team together to have a practice. (we will ALL be reading our parts, but we need to be sure that we are all “on the same page” in terms of timing, logistics, …)
In addition, I would like to determine two other dates;
  • At least 1 addition date for an additional 1st Degree Team Practice (on a Saturday? One weeknight? ???)
  • Dates we will distribute Tootsie Rolls after Masses

On Friday, we have First Friday Adoration.

As I mentioned, on September 11, we will have our Annual Living Rosary in the Parish Hall.

On September 12, the 4th Degree Exemplification is being held in Annapolis.

On September 13, we are hosting Donut Sunday. In conjunction with that, on September 12 and 13, we will also be doing a Recruitment Drive in Church. The plan is that I will be doing the speaking at all Masses, but I would like a “backup” for the 5:00 PM Mass on Saturday (I have a Family Commitment, and just want to be sure someone can step in just in case I am not back in time)

On September 17, after our Council Meeting, we again need to do several things;
  • Coordinate the activities for the Raffle Ticket Sales after Masses on September 19 and 20
  • Coordinate the activities for Tootsie Roll Distribution at Safeway on September 26 and 27
  • Coordinate the activities for our first 1st Degree Exemplification on October 1
  • Again, after the meeting, I would like to get the 1st Degree Team together to have a practice.

and lastly...

On October 1, have our first 1st Degree Exemplification during the Meeting.

As I said, the next month is going to be a busy month, but with everyone helping with all the activities that are going on, everything should come out without any issues (as usual)

I hope to see everyone this Thursday.

This week's meeting is going to be rather busy. We will be having the practice for the Installation right after the meeting, and then a short planning meeting to go over said Installation as well as to go over what we will need to do for the all the events in September.

For officers, unless you say otherwise, I am assuming you will be at the Installation. If you will NOT be there;
  • Let me know that ASAP, and
  • Arrange for a sub for your position
So far, the only officer who has said he will not be there is John (his sub is Andrew Furth)

If you are planning on attending the Installation and/or bringing food, please either let me know by email, or put your name on the sign-up sheet on Thursday. If you are attending with someone (spouse, children, friend(s), ...), please indicate that, so there is an accurate count of guests.
At this point, we seem to have salads covered, but could use more in terms of Main Dishes, Desserts, Bread/Rolls and Drinks.
(Since I suspect, like me, the choice of what you will be bringing will be a joint decision with your respective spouse, please have that discussion with her prior to Thursday's meeting, so you will know what to put down for what you are bringing)

Equally, as you can see, there is a great deal of things going on in September. We will go over these quickly this Thursday, but most likely discuss these future events in more detail in/after the September meeting to firm up anything that needs to be done.

See everyone this Thursday.

As I take on the role of Grand Knight of this Council for the next year, I am filled with excitement.

That excitement comes from not knowing what this year will bring, but knowing that there are many things we will be able to accomplish together.

I also know that if I run into problems, I know that I am surrounded by:
  • All of the members of this Council, both our Past Grand Knights who have been in my "shoes", as well as all the other Council Members
  • Our District Deputy and other State Officers, and
  • Other Knights from other Councils
all of whom know I can turn to for advice.

So let us see what this next Fraternal Year will bring for all of us.

Fraternally,

Stephen Furth
Grand Knight 2015-2016
